Each search I tried I would get a list of results but if I clicked on the result I would get a "System Error, We're sorry, an internal error has occurred." I tried the search later, and it still didn't work. The "search" function wasn't working for me. Some are pretty good, but some are pretty poor. I looked at some of the videos on the site. Registration was easy but I didn't care for the amount of information that was "required" for registration such as address, phone number, and type of practice.Ĭlicking around on the site, when I went to the "Images" section I found this disclaimer interesting: Some of the topics and sections are an interesting surprise for the reader. I recommend the book, and suggest that the clinician spend a couple of hours familiarizing him/herself with the contents so as to fully appreciate the value to the clinic. I don't know how an up-to-date operation can be without this two-volume set. The radiographs are almost entirely digital and well explained. The photos are numerous and of high quality. Useful for the student, and essential for the practicing veterinarian. The book is as complete a textbook as it can be. The reader is walked through a step-by-step procedure from presentation, differential diagnosis, rule-outs, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and treatment, including possible hazards and outcome. Each topic is addressed as thoroughly as possible. The tables are useful and pertinent to the subject. The sections are color-coded on the tops of the pages, and salient points are boxed for emphasis in the text. The book teams with the online version, illustrating diagnostic techniques to demonstrate the normal and abnormal, presented as videos, clips, pictures, and data.ģ10 contributors participated in this effort. The format of the chapters has been redirected toward helping the clinician develop a reasonable diagnosis from sketchy history and vague owner concerns, using high quality algorithms. The book opens with an explanation of the tools needed for learning, practical and theoretical discussion of genomics, the importance of the human-animal bond, and a discussion of euthanasia as an important aspect of veterinary medicine. The print-only clinician will benefit greatly from the improved illustrations. The book has used color throughout, thereby enhancing the visual impact of the book. If this occurs, Elsevier offers a CD-ROM as a replacement for this service. A disclaimer is included that indicates that Elsevier reserves the right to discontinue the online access if the current edition is no longer offered for sale or until the next edition is published. The online version contains videos, loops, pictures, and charts. Most clinicians are computer-savvy enough to create a link for fast access. As the book is online and not a download, it likewise does not take up valuable space on your computer. It is searchable, making topics easily accessible. In an innovative move, the entire book is available online for rapid reference in the clinic. Some older information was culled from this volume to make room for more up-to-date revisions in order to avoid adding bulk with out substance. That alone, an important feature to contributors, makes the information more valuable. You must admire the fact that the editors of this 7th Edition recognize the importance of getting information to press while it is still current and not dawdling over publication.
